Casting Vision for Praying for other Nations

Recently the women’s minister at our church came over to my house during nap time. (Sadly, not my nap time but my kids…wouldn’t it be great if all adults still got a nap time/siesta like they still do in many parts of Spain?! I digress).

She was talking about summer Bible studies and I shared an idea for equipping the women to pray for other countries. I was beyond thrilled that she not only listened, she ran with it and is using it every week as part of the study. I felt so heard and affirmed!

The vision from Scripture to pray and reach nations:

1- Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

2- 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

3- Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

We have received power from the Holy Spirit who lives in us, our identity equips and propels us to proclaim and so we GO! I showed her

Simply click on explore map, type in the name of your city (or if yours isn’t mentioned type one nearby) and click on the red, yellow or green icons to see what unreached or unengaged people are around your home or church. For example, there are 2500 Iraqi people in one small neighborhood that is 10 minutes from our church! Every table or small group received a map and was encouraged to pray for the street/neighborhood they were assigned. They were also encouraged sometime during the 7 weeks of the study to go prayer walk the street/neighborhood. Our church would give jars of salsa or honey to the group who would like to go door to door with a gift and ask if anyone in the home needed prayer. As I attended the Bible study, it was so exciting to see maps out at every table and women’s eyes opening to the nations surrounding us! It was even more exciting to hear stories of women who knocked on doors and got to know the people on the street they had been praying for!!

Who can you gather to look at together? Who are some like minded friends that would adopt a block or neighborhood with you to begin praying for and ministering to the needs of that community. Who lives close to your home? What can you and your family do to bless people far from their homes in your neighborhood? -Amy
