In the Home
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-7
Discipleship happens in the home.
The Lord designed the family, the home, as the central place of learning His truths and His ways. Parents, you are the primary disciple makers in the home, but the weight of being the “primary” disciple maker swings back and forth between an exciting adventure and a daunting task.
We are blessed with parents who love God and walk closely with Him. By the grace of God our parents taught us to trust God, look for Him at every opportunity, practice evangelism, and walk faithfully everyday. The Lord used the faithful obedience of our parents from the beginning of our days, through all of the highs and lows of the teen years, and continues to use our parents even today to lead and encourage us to love and follow the Lord.
Parents, you have a high calling to disciple your daughter. The church has a beautiful role of giving support and joining parents in pouring into girls. And girls are not just on the receiving end of ministry in the home. Girls, you have the opportunity to minister to siblings, respond in obedience, and the opportunity to minister to your parents by encouraging, sharpening, and honoring them.
Whether you are a seasoned parent in the ways of discipleship or you are just starting out on this journey of leading your daughter to love and follow Christ, we want to walk alongside of you to provide encouragement and support. We hope to point you to resources that will encourage and sharpen you.
